2014 had ended.
Oh, I think this post is tooo late to reminisce what happened in 2014 but then, we successfully bade good bye to 2014 and thus, we are presented with a new 365 new beginnings. A clean slate(hopefully) and another chance to make the most out of our life.
I went home to Davao before Christmas and spent the holidays there. I get the chance to bond with my family and reconnect with some of my friends that I got to meet. A not-so-good thing happened before 2014 really did end, we had to go to the hospital because my Papa is not feeling well. Since he was diagnosed with Diabetes long ago, a little bit of pain in his body might mean something serious. My Mama doesn’t like taking chances when it comes to his health, though he insisted that we should spend New Year’s Eve at home, we certainly cannot do so. The whole family spent New Year’s Eve at the hospital and we went home around 4AM feeling groggy because there were no space for us to sleep.
After New Year, I’m supposed to go to boyfriend’s hometown since he visited me last year’s vacation. I made sure Papa was feeling better already before I took on a trip. I took a 30-minute plane from Davao to CDO and arrived at Cagayan De Oro City at around 4PM and met up with one of my friends who I haven’t seen for a long time due to her Business Trip in Manila. We had dinner at Panagatan in Centrio.
After the dinner, we took a bus to Balingasag, Misamis Oriental. We arrived around 10 in the evening.
On my second day at boyfriend’s place, we decided to stroll around the park. There were Christmas decoration around and we also spent some time near the BBQ stalls at the seaside. It was a cold night and after eating, we decided to go home and sleep the night off.
Early the next morning, my older sister called and told me that Papa was transferred to the intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital because they found some clot on his heart and they found some water on his lungs. I decided to go back to Davao to make see him. Boyfriend accompanied me and we took an hour of bus ride from Balingasag to CDO without even the chance to sit down. Yep, this is usual in the Philippines were buses are a bit crowded than the usual. Buses that comes this way to Cagayan De Oro would certainly came from Butuan City or other further city. So we were out of choice.
At Cagayan De Oro, we hopped on a departing bus to Davao. And here goes the long wait. The Cagayan De Oro-Davao land travel takes around 8-10 hours, depending on the traffic density of the towns and cities along the way. We departed around 1 in the afternoon and arrived at Davao around 9PM. It was a tiresome travel but I was determined to see Mama and Papa. I was devastated when the guard told us that we cannot enter the hospital because visiting hours had ended, we tried to reason out that we came all the way from Cagayan De Oro and if it’s okay I might go upstairs and see them. Luckily, the guards let me be swapped as one of my father’s watchers. I was able to talk to my mom, though I can’t really enter the ICU because the staffs won’t allow it. After the visit, we just went home and sleep our tired body.
In the morning, we went back to the hospital and I got to see father. He was doing fine in recovering and all. He was transferred to the ICU because his vital signs dropped but it was stable already. They were also monitoring his oxygen level and blood sugar and heart rate. He was smiling and joking when I visited him and asked me why I came back. I almost cried laughing.
Our flight back to Cebu is via Cagayan De Oro on the 6th of January, it was already January 5. Since Papa is really okay now, he told us to try to catch our plane so as not to shell out more money to buy new plane tickets. To catch the plane, we departed from Davao to Cagayan De Oro on the last trip of the day–10PM trip. We were seated on the extension seat because the bus was already filled with passengers going home.
I don’t usually sleep on long trips because I’m a bit paranoid (sorry) and I also like taking the time during the trip to think. In that particular moment, all I want to do is sleep soundly during the bus ride but I cannot do it properly. The extension seat is the seat in the pathway of the bus and the chair doesn’t have a proper back rest. We tried our best to just sleep through the 8 hours ride, though I think we got only an hour of sleep in our position.
We arrived in Cagayan De Oro at around 6AM and hopped on the bus going to Balingasag. We ate breakfast at boyfriend’s place then got our stuff ready. We then bade goodbye to his family and hopped (again) on a bus going to Cagayan De Oro. We arrived in Cagayan at around 10:30 AM. Our flight is scheduled at 2:05 in the afternoon. We ate our lunch at a fast food, grabbed some “pasalubong” and got on a van to the airport. Cagayan De oro to the new aiport, at Laguindingan, is roughly one hour and half. We arrived at the airport at around 12:30PM, in time for the check-in counter to open.
As what I’ve posted before, I’m really hesitant in taking plane rides because I’m a bit paranoid that the plane might go down. >.< That time, I was really really tired and all I want to do was get to Cebu and marry my bed and never be departed from it. When the plane arrived, I was really happy and we boarded it gladly. The flight was okay, I was trying to sleep but still can’t, the paranoia is just around the corner. At touchdown, I was ready to jump off the plane and get home.
We were greeted by Cebu’s traffic but I slept in the cab and was up only when we arrived. Well, I just slept the remaining of the day and is thankful for the safe trip.
That’s how my 2014 ended and the beginning of my 2015. We were greeted by some sort of events that made us who we are now. The first 15 days of 2015 is almost over and I’m still thinking of what the things should I changed, or do for this new beginning. I hope that we find something to do this 2015 that would gladly make us a better person; or, improved us in any way possible. I’m also wishing that we won’t mock others on their New Year’s Resolution. It might sound cool but it will never be. When you see someone running or going to the gym after the Holidays, don’t judge them that they are just doing it because of some resolution that they might not achieved. Instead, be happy for them because at last, they had the courage to start something new out of this brand new beginning. Let’s be the support that others need us to be.
If you’re following my instagram account (you can follow it for more updates, yay), I started posting some food photos and I’m planning on posting their simple recipe here. These are healthy food that I am trying to take in everyday. Of course, it’s just the beginning and we will never know what might happen next. We can just hope or wish that it would result to something great.
I’m planning to improve my working habits, exercise, relationship and spend more time here in the blog, read more books and hopefully, fully launched our own business (in partnership with the Boyfriend).
I’ll update soon about it. As of now, let’s take 2015 one baby step at a time and try our best to do a lot of improvements in one day because this is where it will all begin– today. From this day onward!
